I am pocket deprived, I am also anti-purse. I’ve always wondered how hard it would be to add pockets to the skirts and dresses I have. I found this tutorial poking around on the web today and it solved my problem.

The original tutorial that inspired this post which shared how to add a pocket to a dress or skirt has disappeared, but don’t worry. One of my favorite creators on TikTok has a fabulous quick tutorial you can watch right here! Bonus, she shares it for pants. The same method for adding pockets works for all skirts and dresses that have a side seam.

Enjoy!

The good news is that I found a great tutorial over on Craftsy, so all is not lost. Enjoy!

Update: Both the link and original Tumblr are gone 🙁

materials needed: sewing machine, thread, seam ripper, pieces of fabric to create your pockets

  1. If adding pocket to to a thin material extend the top of the pocket to tack across at the waist band so the pocket does not drape and fall open when you drop keys or cell phone into pocket.
