If you've arrived at the point where you're researching contact cleaners, this is where your journey ends.
This is 'miracle level' stuff.

They have two kinds... DeOxit D and DeOxit Gold.
**Edit** Thanks to Tony for the great clarification!
Turns out, per the factory, the regular "D" is for regular contacts, the "gold" is for gold plated contacts!

You can get a little pack containing two small cans of each at Radio Shack for like $15, so check there first if you only have a small job to do. That allows you to treat and condition about 10 connections per can (give or take, maybe 15 if you scrimp), so it washes out to about a buck and a half per treatment. Compare that to taking your stuff in to have parts replaced and paying a $60/hr bench rate, you're saving a ton here.

Only use very quick, sharp 'bursts', not "squirts". It doesn't take much- any more than that is wasted.

I have used DeOxit on many different things and it's worked stone-cold perfect every. single. time. Some recent examples:

* A great 1980's Peavey Guitar Amp being sold for a giveaway price because of a crackly volume potentiometer causing intermittent function. Bought it for $20, 20 minutes of my time and a bit of DeOxit, fixed like new and resold it for $80 profit.
* 5 Position selector switch on my guitar cutting out in position 5. DeOxit fixed that right up.
* The radio that lives on my desk is a really cool vintage GE Desktop Radio from the 70's, sold at a yard sale because of, you guessed it, crackling volume knob. It's been serving me perfectly for a couple years now, after DeOxit.
* Had a couple vintage Tiger handheld video games with control pads not making contact. DeOxit, viola. No problem.

Last year, I bought a EU2000I Honda generator, that had tumbled into the Pacific Ocean. As a result, all 50 or so, electrical connections were green with corrosion. This little 5 oz can of DeOxit, cleaned up every one of them, turning my purchase from a fiasco, into a super quiet success. I've also worked DeOxit's magic on my 12 year old Class A Motor home, that we park by the Oregon Coast. Last month, I used it to clean up corrosion on the Onan Generator starting circuit board, that I would have normally replaced, at a cost of around $100.00. This little can is pricy, but more than well worth it, for the "Do It YourSelfer."

I've used one form or another of this product since the mid '70s and it's fantastic.

I'd found out about it from a magazine back then called Audio Amateur and at that time, the similar product was called Cramolin. As with DeoxIT, it came in a red and a blue variety. The blue is/was a preservative for newly manufactured contacts and the red is/was a cleaner and preservative. Theoretically, the blue may provide longer/better protection while the red is better for cleaning and restoring contacts which are already oxidized.

You can clean contacts with the red, then remove it, then treat with the blue to get the best protection of already oxidized contacts, but in practice, the red alone works so well that it's extremely effective to simply clean and treat the contacts in one step using only the red. As a result, I use about one can of blue for every ten or more cans of the red. For most uses, most folks only need the red (D) variety. I don't want that to make it sound like I go through cans and cans of the stuff, but since I work in the electronics field, I do use a lot more than most people.

As has been mentioned in several other reviews, you need very little of it to do most jobs. A single can will last a very long time even for someone who is constantly working on a lot of equipment.

After finding out how well it worked on audio connections and potentiometers, I introduced the folks at the electronics company where I worked to it. All of the technicians and engineers were amazed and it soon became a staple. We designed, manufactured, installed, and serviced various telemetry and process control equipment.

Works better than any contact cleaner I've ever used. My son's Altec Lansing computer speakers had a seriously scratchy volume control. I unscrewed the cabinet, stuck the red hose in right over the pot, and with two squirts all noise is gone. If I could only squirt my wife's mouth with this stuff and produce the same result. C'mon, you know you laughed.

most of these sprays are sold by third parties and not amazon so be sure to do a bit of research and get ur model numbers right.
the Hosa D5S-6 or DeoxIT® D5 that i got is flammable and leaves a grease trail, while the DeoxIT® DN5 is non-flam and quick dry.
what i really wanted was the DN5 QD n NF, but i bought the D5 by mistake on my part.
Since i cant use it on my PC's circuit board i sprayed a bit on my keyboard to test it, and it ate the gunk off my dirty KB with ease.
much better than a can of screen cleaner, so im pretty much stuck with a can of super WD40.
Pros: very good cleaner, light grease trail so safe for sensitive equipment

Cons: these specially formulated sprays are still pretty pricey. everyone keep using the same picture while there are several variations of the spray.
amazon and third party sellers need to better tag and distinguish their products
