This week will feel like we have stepped away from the clothes and laundry theme but hang in there. We’ve just broken what can be one of the more challenging organizational hotspots into two challenges.
This week we are going for the visual win and organizing the top of the dresser. As with most horizontal surfaces, dressers tend to become a catch-all. Put any stacks of clothing away and deal with the receipts, loose change, etc. If you are holding on to ticket stubs or other ephemera for scrapbooks, it’s time to figure out a place for them to live while they await preservation.
A tip I found in the wild that I need to share:
If you are having trouble with figuring out where to put an item, I saw a great tip on organization recently that finally made things click in my head. (It was from @iorganize on TikTok)
When you are putting things “away,”. Away equals with or near items that will be used simultaneously, with its coworkers, or items that have a similar use, its cousins.
My brain just found this a great way to think about out of place items as I run across them.
If you tend to empty your pockets onto your dresser, you may find something called a valet tray useful to corral these items.
Hopefully, this week’s challenge is a quick one for you.
Have a great week!
Oh! I like this definition of putting things away. It makes things fit together easier and is a way to help everyone in the house think of where something would belong.
