Heather says

Hi, it’s been a couple weeks, hasn’t it?

Things started off with the best of intentions, but then my youngest decided to play Typhoid Mary (only she was sick, too) with a fun thing called Rotavirus.

Parents of very young children probably know this term and are cringing. I took the kids to a water park and she thanked us by giving us the gift of a highly transmissible stomach virus. And one by one we fell.

While I’m doing laundry, cleaning the bathroom, and disinfecting all of the hard surfaces, why don’t you tell me how you have been?

  1. We did that once about 17 years ago. It was awful. My one year old spiked a temp over 104 and had us so worried. Life gets put on hold when things like this happen. Hope you are all well and back to normal soon.

    • It is so scary when they get that sick, isn’t it?

Thankfully my youngest is 7 so not in the dangerous age range for this virus.

I can say that the bathroom remodeling project is my highest priority after spending the majority of the night on that floor last week. (at least I can laugh about it?)

  2. ALL THE SYMPATHY! My daughter had rotavirus when she was 18 months old, I was 8 months pregnant at the time, and her dad and I both had a mild case of it, too. We ended up with her in the ER because she was vomiting blood. And I will never forget the smell. OMG.

Hire yourself some help to come in and get things back to normal – whether it’s with cleaning or meals or whatever you can afford, because you deserve it. I am so sorry you’ve been dealing with it. The good news is that once you’ve had it, you shouldn’t ever get it again. Not at full strength, anyway. (((hugs)))

    • It is its own special funk, isn’t it?

Thank you, we’re definitely on the mend. I’m going to venture to the grocery store today. (And then a nap!)

Apparently this isn’t the only virus going around here right now, 140 kids were out or sent home from my kids’ school yesterday.

  3. All the empathy, Heather, I feel for you!I am hoping we dodge that bullet with Little Bean because it feels like I can only just stay alive and keep hir alive these first weeks – an illness would probably just finish me off! It’s been rough.

  4. I don’t like cold or snow or th flu season. We just got hit with it, too. I suppose it fits in with Lent, becoming aware of our mortality and realizing our need for God. I am finally learning to put a matress cover and sheet on the couch while sick kids rest in front of the T.V. Duh. It took me 5 kids and 12 years of motherhood to figure that out. So, what are your best tips for cleaning vomit out of carpet? May God Bless you.

    • I would follow the steps in this despite it being about furniture. (Any solid-ish bodily excretion should be handled about the same) /how-to-remove-poop-from-upholstery-and-fabric/

  5. I’m glad you’re starting to get better–it will probably take a while to get your strength back. At times like this, I wish we all had wagon robots that could go to the grocery for us! Just type in the list and the account #….

What I’ve been doing for the past 3 weeks is hunting my electric drill. I use it a lot and was going to hang new curtain rods. Friday, I put away the rods and hardware and screws because I was sick of looking at them. I found the drill on Saturday–I had made a special drawer for tools I use all the time, then forgot I did it. Pretty nutty, huh?
