Dear Home Ec 101:

If you had a big jarful of fortune cookies left over from Chinese takeout, what would you do with them?

Signed,

~ Fortunate One

Heather says:

Caution: Opening too many fortune cookies at once may be seriously harmful to your future.

I was stumped for a moment. Leftover fortune cookies, how could that happen? It just didn’t mesh with my reality, but here is what I came up with:

  • Crush and use instead of graham cracker crumbs for peanut butter balls.
  • Make a cookie crumb crust.
  • Pass out as favors at a child’s birthday party.

Mr. Heather suggested unwrapping and scattering in a dark hallway to re-enact the scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Short Round – Feels like we’re walking on fortune cookies.

(lights come on)

Short Round – Those aren’t fortune cookies!

Of course, if you choose to take his advice, you’ll need tips on sweeping.

I look forward to seeing the suggestions from all of our Home Eccers.

  1. Take them to work and leave them by the coffee. They’ll be gone before you’re ready for your second cup.

Don’t work in an office? I bet you know someone who does…

  2. Take one a day like a multi-vitamin.
Just opened a fortune cookie after Chinese tonight – I’m going to be “comfortable and materially well off in old age.” My husband smirked that I’ll have to divorce him and marry someone else. !!

  3. Stick in box, send to me…
Or you can stick them on top of ice cream…
Or how about sticking them on top of a layer of whipped cream floating on a cup of hot cocoa. Mmmm!
GREAT! Now I’m hungry for cocoa!

  4. I’m not much of a collector, I’m more minimalist. But I do have one guilty pleasure and that’s a small ginger jar of fortunes from cookies. I’ve kept them all. From friends that eat over and dates and just lazy dinner nights. It makes me happy to peer in and see all of those well wishes and bits of advice.
