Heather says:
Welcome to the “When Home Improvement Projects Go Awry” edition of the Sunday Confessional. Mr. Heather and I are usually competent do it yourself type people. In our old home, a 100+ year old home in Minnesota, we hired out for some major projects. Thankfully, our curent home is newer and thus far has only needed minor repairs and cosmetic changes.
Which brings us to our shower. In June, Mr. Heather and I agreed it was time to strip out the old caulk and replace it with a new mildew resistant caulking. We decided we’d let the shower dry out for 72 hours after stripping the caulk and using a bleach solution. It’s now September and we are still using the shower on the other end of the house.
So Home Eccers, comment and tell us about your abandoned projects.
I did manage to reintroduce my floors to a mop a few hours after the last confessional; I’m hoping this one has a similar effect.
Geesh, how much time ya got?
Well, I have been trying to get hubby to put in a pool house for 4 years. At first it was just going to be a storage building, so he dug out the base for concrete. Wait two years until the grass grew back.
Then he decided to make it a room where we could sit. He and DS dug most of the foundation this summer. Notice I said MOST. Now it is growing full of grass. Now he’s decided it will be a sunroom, with storage in the back. It’s gone from 4×4 to 10X20.
Did I mention he bought the concrete the first summer. It’s been in the garage ever since. I have to park around it. So now I would like him to clean the garage. He’s asleep beside me as we speak.
Yesterday we picked out tile for the powder room. I am painting the room in two weeks. Anyone want to bet on when he will put down the tile???
Geez, my dh started finishing a room in the basement. He said he’d be done in about 2 months. It’s been 2 years! Still not finished…
Heather, maybe this is a good omen. Hubby cleaned out the garage after I posted!!! Man it’s so nice. I can open my car door without hitting anything. But alas the concrete is still there. Maybe next summer.
The bad part is that I am perfectly capable of caulking the shower. I just haven’t.
I had broken mini blinds or nothing at all in my house for two years (you could ask Mr. Heather, they were BAD). We could have taken them down and replaced them, instead we compained about them, like they were going to fix themselves. My parents came out to see our baby when she was a week old and my mom and dad went out bought curtains and curtain rods, shelves with rods for two of our closets, shelves for the bathroom and a shelve and rod for our entery. Lets just say, my dad did not get to hold the baby much…a full weekend of projects, but my house looks so much better now and we are not a TV to the world outside:) I think it was my moms way of hogging the baby.
I like to think of myself as an idea person. And, ideally, idea people should marry “check it off the list” kind of people. That way, idea people can start the projects that have been brewing in their noggins and the check it off the list people can finish said project when the novelty of it has worn off.
Unfortunately, my husband is NOT a check it off the list kind of person. So the list of unfinished projects in our house is astounding! Last summer I started making a sandbox for my kids – still isn’t done. I’m sitting in a room without the crown moulding (it’s cut and ready to install) or window treatments (have all the supplies, just haven’t started).
I could go on, but it’s starting to get painful.
In Dec. we put new tile in the kitchen. I sanded and painted the kitchen island abd then……I quit doing anything at all.
The paint for the walls, trim and rest of the cabinets is sitting in the basement, and I’m currently sitting in my butt.
:::heavy sigh::::
At a really happy time in my childhood I painted my bedroom bright neon blue. When we bought our first home I decided to paint our bedroom the very same color. Well, 20 years later with an Eastern exposure, the color is not quite so charming. In fact, Grams says it lights up like a brothel from the outside… Thanks, Grams. So while I was preggers, hubz began repainting it solo. Too bad he never added a second coat to the edges, still glows blue under beige. And I’m not even gonna talk about the trim…
thats hilarious! typical lazies! (i dont blame ya)
